Another year has passed. So long 2018, hello 2019!

A lot happened in the world of Drunken Cat Comics last year. We produced 7 new comics and had a number of our books nominated for awards (I even got to table at CXC). Also, together with the fine folks at Mullet Turtle Comics and Disposable Fiction, we produced the first issue of a free comics newspaper for Columbus, OH which we’ve affectionately dubbed The Columbus Scribbler. The goal of the paper is to introduce and educate the people of Columbus to the vibrant comics scene surrounding them and to help foster a love and deeper appreciation for the comics medium as a whole.

We also spent the year producing webcomics. In other words, 2018 kept us busy.

As per usual this time of year, we’d now like to look back at last year and celebrate our most popular webcomics. So without further ado…

25. Be Outgoing

Be Outgoing

Starting the list off with everyone’s favorite awkward monsters, the Blirps. The Blirps had a big year and this is the first of many to make our list. This comic’s all about making impressions;)

24. Still 34

Still 34

Still a very topical comic, especially with all the recent brouhaha about bitcoin.

23. Ask The Drunken Cat #14

Ask The Drunken Cat #14

The first appearance of our lovable, inebriated mascot on the list. 2018 brought about a lot of Ask The Drunken Cat comics. Some were good, some were bad, most were irate. I like the fact that The Drunken Cat decided he needed to wear reading glasses for this one.

22. Ask The Drunken Cat #16

Ask The Drunken Cat #16

A calmer answer from The Drunken Cat about one of the facts of life.

21. Don’t Screw Up

Don't Screw Up

The Blirps get their second spot on this list with this tale of panic and false starts.

20. Dream Big

Dream Big

Like I said before, “The Blirps had a big year” and they are all over this list. This one’s about opportunities.

19. Be Real

Be Real

Sometimes you just gotta talk street;)

18. Online Vs. IRL

Online VS IRL

Social media and the internet have changed our lives in so many ways, this comic’s about one of the more negative changes as we move further and further away from showing others who we really are.

17. The Future is Scary

The Future is Scary

“It’s a trap!”

16. The Prize is Losing Half of Everything You Own

The Prize is Losing Half of Everything You Own

Perhaps one of the more surprising comics to make the list this year was an old Cereal Kid comic. That kid just can’t catch a break with his breakfast but this year he caught a break with views.

15. The Infinite Finite Possibilities

The Infinite Finite Possibilities

And so, time marches on.

14. Asthenia

Asthenia

A comic about relationships and space, what’s not to enjoy? This comic is also further proof that people really like sad comics.

13. Be Pretty

Be Pretty

Perhaps the saddest Blirps comic I’ve ever done.

12. Play Nice

Play Nice

This year the Blirps also got a little more political. After all, nothing says politics like a water cooler.

11. Baggage

Baggage

Perhaps one of my favorite webcomics and one that’s garnered the most comments from readers. I was unloading a lot of frustrations when I wrote this and really just working them out on the page. I still really love the ending.

10. Take Charge

Take Charge

Starting off our top ten, we have yet another Blirps comic. I like how this one’s ending undercuts every panel that came before it.

9. Pagliacci

Pagliacci

This one came about from a brainstorming session. These are always fun, it’s basically just Derek and I trying to one-up each other. Beyond that… clowns are funny;)

8. Sleep Easy

Sleep Easy

The world’s a scary place seems to be the theme for comics this year.

7. I will never solve this puzzle

I will never figure out this puzzle

Back for another year, after a year off our list. I personally think all puzzles should have kitties in them;)

6. Dear Non-Spooning Arm

Dear Non-Spooning Arm

For the third year in a row, this comic has made our top ten list. It was originally a journal comic featured in my award-nominated book, The Big Year, and was the first time I wrote a comic as an open letter. This comic also stands as one of the most commented on comics on our site. Moral of the story, people like to help others.

5. It’s NOT Poison

It's NOT Poison

The third year in a row for this one from the Mixed Drink days of this site and the second comic to feature the couple from the Velociraptors make Terrible Babysitters comic, this one is a silly parody of infomercials which the fine folks at the Canned Air podcast even turned into an actual radio commercial earlier in the year (around 44mins into the podcast).

4. I Hate My Life.

Spending it’s third year in a row in our top ten, this comic’s all about negativity (there’s so much of it these days). I’m still really happy with the main character, especially his jacket.

3. 9 Ways to Get Rich in America

Back for it’s third consecutive year on this list. Still, not surprisingly, this comic continues to spark discussion on our site (and other places online) from people who didn’t see the humor of “Be rich already” being included several times on the list. Keep up the good work America:)

2. It’ll Happen To You

It'll Happen to You

Back for it’s third year on this list. Aging and inflation, they go together like peanut butter and jelly. This prophecy has been brought to you by Drunken Cat Comics;)

1. Oh The Places Your Brain Will Go

Oh the Places Your Brain Will Go

For the second time, this comic has made it onto our list and for the first time it’s holding our number one spot. It just goes to show you that a stressed brain is an active brain. I still really like the idea of a brain cruising in a car. I think it’s a cool visual, although it would be terrifying to see in real life… as most awesome things are.

And there you have it, our most popular webcomics from 2018. Hope you enjoyed this latest little trip down memory lane. Be sure to check out our latest comics every Tuesday and Saturday. Also be on the lookout for more great printed matter from Derek and myself this coming year. From the looks of it 2019 is shaping up to be an epic year.
