On April 28th and 29th, the stars in sky over Columbus, OH were not to be seen as they were all converging at the Northland Performing Arts center for the annual Small Press and Alternative Comics Expo, otherwise known as S.P.A.C.E! Admission was free to the public, and despite the weather taking an unexpected turn into the nice, the turnout was still very respectable.

All our friends were there and we made some new ones along the way. The big sellers at our table this year were our new mini books, including Roulette, Glimpses of Life 3, 4 and 5 , Blirps 2 and Plastic People 2, 3, 4 and 5. If you haven’t checked them out, you should, as they are a quick and easy way to get into some very interesting comics. Also, if you are feeling inspired, you should make some of your own, as part of the fun of going to S.P.A.C.E. every year is seeing the wide assortment of creative talents and ideas. There is always such a huge variety of stories and art pooled together from Central Ohio and beyond.

One of my personal favorite experiences at S.P.A.C.E. this year was the jam comics we passed back and forth with Michael Carroll (whose popular Cute Ninja Coloring Book is currently available on Amazon). These are collaborative comics that are created by a different artist drawing each panel. They are fun and in the moment and, perhaps most importantly, not likely to see print, so if you want a chance to see lightening being captured in a bottle, make your way to S.P.A.C.E next year, and be sure to stop by our booth and say hi!
